Step by Step Guide for Domain Transfers Print

  • 1

Step 1 - Ensure that the administrative contact for your domain name has a valid email address

Both registrars (the old and the new) use this email address to send you important information about the transfer of your domain name. If the contact email address is invalid, you should contact your current registrar to update it.

You can check this via our domain checker

https://clients.hostgeek.com.sg/domainchecker.php

After looking up the domain select the WHOIS option

Please be aware all .au WHOIS lookups must be performed through the AUsRegistry website

https://ausregistry.com.au/whois

For all other domains

https://who.is/

NOTE: If your domain name has privacy protection enabled, a service that hides your personal information from the public, you cannot verify your administrative contact's email address in the Whois database. You must contact your current registrar to cancel the privacy protection, and then you can update the email address, if necessary.

Step 2 – Obtain the domain transfer code (EPP code)

You will need to obtain the transfer code (EPP code) from your current domain registrar. You will need to contact your current registrar in order to obtain this code from them.

If your domain is a .au domain, you can re-send the password to the Registered Contact email address via the AUsRegistry website -> http://ausregistry.com.au/tools/recover-password

Step 3 – Place the transfer order

Place an order for the domain name transfer via our website.

You can do this via the following URL:

https://clients.hostgeek.com.sg/cart.php?a=add&domain=register/

Just follow the on screen steps to place your order. Once your order has been placed an invoice will be created. Once your invoice has been marked as paid, your transfer request will be sent to the registrar.

Step 4 – Respond to Approval e-mail

Once the domain transfer request has been received by the registrar and your EPP code has been accepted. A confirmation of transfer e-mail will be sent to the registrant e-mail address for the domain. You will need to respond to e-mail to approve the transfer process.

Step 5 – Wait for the domain transfer to be processed

The rest of the process is automated and your domain should be transferred within 5 business days.

If there are any delays to your order during this process we will let you know and contact you via e-mail to assist you with your domain transfer. If you have any questions about your domain transfer you can contact us support@hostgeek.com.sg
